Flood Song
02:53
|
|||
When the flood came you brought me to higher ground
and set me safe on the thickest branch. And from my tree I looked upon
the waters flowing and all the people I ever knew
were washed away....
From my tree I looked down and watched them all drift away.
And then the sun shone, you took my hand and brought me down,
and in a row boat we rowed through the streets.
And we had a picnic right on the hood of an old car,
the bread was stale but you were there.
From my tree....

Slight Song
02:17
|
|||
You drank too much, you're a mess.
Head buried beneath your pillow your hair escapes,
your hips shift...
I watch you sleep and try not to breathe, wake you
from your dreams, which are not of me...
I'll never be your man.
It would be so easy to tug away and expose
your holy skin, your fragrant flesh...
and take you.
I watch you sleep...

Line of Fools
03:10
|
|||
You build your nest out of broken pieces of me,
you build it high around your sacred little things,
while I, below, wander through the dusk, trying
to find your safe arbor.
I'm a fool in a long line of fools who
thought that we could capture you.
But there's no easy way.
We walked hand and hand through the old city's
cobbled streets. The night was alive with music.
And the rain, the rain fell upon our weary heads
as lightning flashed the temple of Zeus...
I'm a fool....
They can't see us, they can't see our nakedness -
this beach is deserted and the sun is low and I,
I would give my last useless breath just to melt into
the sand and stay.
But I'm a fool...
